Chrome displays warning for non-HTTPS

August, 2021

CWS will require HTTPS on all websites hosted on our servers.

Beginning in Google Chrome’s M94, “Chrome will offer HTTPS-First Mode, which will attempt to upgrade all page loads to HTTPS and display a full-page warning before loading sites that don’t support it.”(1) Chrome’s browser market share is 65%, and Safari’s market share is over 18%.(2)

Chrome shows ALL HTTP sites as “not secure”

July, 2018

If you haven’t transitioned to HTTPS yet, now’s the time to start.

HTTPS is increasingly important for all sites, not only e-commerce, since HTTPS protects visitors’ privacy and improves your page ranking for Google searches. In addition, on our hosting platform, HTTPS also automatically enables HTTP/2, the latest version of the HTTP protocol, which improves site performance.

Chrome started showing security warnings

October 2017

Chrome (version 62) shows a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form on an HTTP page, and for all HTTP pages in Incognito mode.

Beginning in July 2018 with the release of Chrome 68, Chrome will identify all HTTP sites as “not secure.”

Using SSL/TLS certificates, your site visitors (i.e., their browsers) can validate that they are connected to your web server—and not an imposter’s server. In addition, certificates help your visitors establish an HTTPS connection, so information exchanged between your visitors and your web server is encrypted.
